Community Project Funding - 2025 Requests
Rep. Golden has submitted funding requests for important community projects in Maine's Second Congressional District to the House Appropriations Committee.
Under guidelines issued by the Appropriations Committee, each Representative may request funding for up to 15 projects in their community for fiscal year 2025 — although only a handful may actually be funded. Projects are restricted to a limited number of federal funding streams and only state and local governments and eligible nonprofit entities can receive funding.
In compliance with House Rules and Committee requirements, Rep. Golden has certified that he, his spouse, and his immediate family have no financial interest in any of the projects he has requested.

Transportation, Housing, Urban Development, and Related Agencies
Town of Jay Alden Hill Road Economic Development Enhancement Project
Amount of Request: $565,000
Recipient: Town of Jay, located at 340 Main St., Jay, ME 04239
Summary: Funding would be used to upgrade 3,200 feet of Alden Hill Road, including building 18 inches of subbase to support heavy loads, replacing a dilapidated culvert within the roadway, and five inches of pavement. The upgraded road will support wood product deliveries needed to support a new oriented strand board (OSB) plant at the shuttered paper mill site.

Town of Swan's Island Town Dock
Address: 20 Grindle Road, Swan’s Island, Maine, 04685
Amount: $1,400,000
Description: Funding would be used for rebuilding the town dock, which is the only public access float in Burnt Coat Harbor, the working waterfront for Swan’s Island’s fishermen, and the access point for emergency responders and agencies helping citizens in times of need.

Stonington Commercial Fish Pier Improvement Project

Description: Funding would be used for dredging necessary to support pier improvements and increased elevation of three feet for flood mitigation and to address climate-related sea level rise and storm surge at the Stonington fish pier.

Jonesport Working Waterfront Access at Henry Point
Address: 70 Snare Creek Lane, Jonesport, ME 04649
Amount: $1,678,300
Description: Funding would be used for infrastructure needed to support a commercial working waterfront access at Henry Point in Jonesport. Core components include parking lot construction (suitable for 35–50 work trucks and trailers, including ample room for turning to launch and haul out commercial vessels) and construction of two two-lane boat ramps with floats.

Fort Kent Public Works Garage Expansion Project
Address: 416 West Main St., Fort Kent, ME 04744
Amount: $1,700,000
Description: Funding would be used for the Fort Kent Public Works Department to expand its garage facilities to accommodate winter plowing equipment. The 6,800 square foot expansion project aims to provide additional space for storing and maintaining snowblowers, plows, salt spreaders, graders and other essential vehicles and machinery.

Mi'kmaq Environmental Laboratory
Address: 7 Northern Road, Presque Isle, ME 04769
Amount: $2,100,000
Description: Funding would be used for designing and building a new environmental laboratory at the Mi’kmaq Nation for water testing for fluoride, chloride, nitrate, nitrite, and sulfate, as well as major cations such as lithium, sodium, ammonium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. The building would provide education and training opportunities for Tribal youth and others interested in pursuing a career in science- and nature resource-related fields.

Central Maine Community College Public Service Simulation Center Expansion

Amount: $5,000,000
Description: Funding would be used for infrastructure to support the expansion of Central Maine Community College’s (CMCC) Public Service Simulation Center. The expansion would strengthen students’ preparedness for beginning a career in law enforcement and it would strengthen public safety service by increasing space and functionality of the center for any law enforcement agencies and public service organizations to utilize for training, including active shooter response, tactical operations, de-escalation, methods of arrest, forensic science, criminal investigation, crisis intervention, and more.

Auburn Tech Hub Infrastructure Expansion

Amount: $3,200,000
Description: Funding would be used for infrastructure to increase the capacity of the Washington Street sewage pump station and for construction of a new Commerce Way sewage pump station. These improvements will make business expansion and attraction within Auburn’s Forest Bioproducts Advanced Tech Hub possible. Currently, Auburn does not have the sewage capacity to attract new businesses.

Town of Holden Police Department Garage Project

Description: Funding would be used to construct a 2,520 square foot garage to house our police cruisers and related equipment which will help extend their life span and offer a further level of security to officers and to the community.

Town of Surry Fire Truck Project

Description: The funding would be used for a new, replacement pumper/tanker fire truck. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because it will increase the capacity of the Surry Volunteer Fire Department to suppress fires in the community's urban-wildland interface.

Northeastern Maine Law Enforcement Equipment Modernization

Northern Maine Regional Law Enforcement Equipment Modernization

Description: Funding will be used to assist state law enforcement in preventing and reducing crime, improving the effectiveness of law enforcement, increasing officer safety, curbing the opioid crisis, and other strategic priorities. This project will improve public safety officer safety, increase the transparency of law enforcement through technology improvements, and allow our local law enforcement agencies to work together across our vast rural district to reduce crime.

University of Maine American Lobster Settlement Index Maine Collector Survey
Address: 5717 Corbett Hall, Orono, ME 04469
Amount: $997,156
Description: Funding would be used to support needed equipment, supplies, and staff to establish an expansion of American Lobster Settlement Index (ALSI) sites in the Gulf of Maine. The ALSI is an international collaborative monitoring program that was initiated in Maine in 1989 to track the health of juvenile American lobster populations at their youngest, most vulnerable stage during their life history.
