Community Project Funding - 2027 Requests

Rep. Golden has submitted funding requests for important community projects in Maine's Second Congressional District to the House Appropriations Committee.

Under guidelines issued by the Appropriations Committee, each Representative may request funding for up to 20 projects in their community for fiscal year 2027 — although only a handful may actually be funded. Projects are restricted to a limited number of federal funding streams and only state and local governments and eligible nonprofit entities can receive funding.

In compliance with House Rules and Committee requirements, Rep. Golden has certified that he, his spouse, and his immediate family have no financial interest in any of the projects he has requested.

Castine Fire Station

Address: 67 Court Street, Castine, Maine 04421
Description: The funding would be used to build a new Fire and Rescue Department station house. This would replace the 65-year-old facility which is inadequate to house essential equipment and activities.

Liberty Community Building

Description: The funding would be used for essential improvements to the former Walker Elementary School and property to transform this shutters community asset into a town hall and multi-purpose community center.

Orland Fire Department

Description: The funding would be used to acquire a modern fire tanker truck for the Orland Fire Department.

Passamaquody Public Safety Judicial Center

Description: Funding would be used to construct a Public Safety Judicial Center that will centralize and strengthen the Tribe’s judicial and public safety infrastructure. This project addresses a critical gap in the facilities necessary to ensure the fair, efficient, and secure administration of justice for Tribal members.

Maine State Police Crime Lab

Description: Funding would be used to modernize the State Police Crime Laboratory to enhance forensic capacity, improve accuracy, and increase timeliness.

Maine Coastal Lobster Early Life-Stage Research and Community Hatchery

Description: Funding would be used to establish a coastal research and monitoring platform focused on the earliest life stages of the American lobster, providing new scientific information needed to support sustainable fisheries management and coastal ecosystem stewardship

Jackman Regional EMS Training & Rural Healthcare Innovation Center

Description: Funding would be used to transform a brownfield site into a mix of housing, commercial activity, light industrial spaces, and riverfront community gathering & recreation amenities.

Description: Funding would be used to utilize the waterfront as an applied classroom for students, faculty, and community stakeholders.

Maliseet Roots to Produce Project

Description: Funding would be used for infrastructure, such as greenhouse or climate-controlled environments, allowing for production outside typical seasonal constraints. The Maliseet Roots to Produce Project would bypass Northern Maine's short growing window by implementing a season-extension system that protects crops from early and late-season frosts.

Passamaquoddy Housing

Roque Bluffs Working Waterfront

Stonington Fish Pier Improvement Project

Description: Funding would be used for the completion of the second phase of the pier project to raise its height to support pier improvements and increased elevation of three feet for flood mitigation and to address climate-related sea level rise and storm surge at the Stonington fish pier.
