Newsletters

Friends,

It’s an honor to represent you in Congress. This newsletter is an opportunity to keep you up to date with what I’m working on in Washington, what I’m up to in Maine, and to get your feedback on issues important to our state. It’s been a busy start to the year, but here’s what I’ve been up to recently.

One of my top priorities in Congress is to protect your health care and I’m concerned by the Trump Administration’s recent move to support a lawsuit that will fully repeal the Affordable Care Act. That’s one reason I helped introduce the Protecting Pre-Existing Conditions and Making Health Care Affordable Act last week. Our bill would lower Maine’s health insurance premiums, crack down on junk insurance plans, and strengthen protections for those with pre-existing conditions.

Last week I also held a health care town hall at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. We had a great discussion on how to build a stronger and more affordable health care system. Tom Saviello, former Republican State Senator, moderated the event, and Dawn Caron, a representative of the Maine State Nurses Association, used her experience as a nurse to explain how our current health care system is failing everyday people.

But it’s not enough just to listen. We need to take action. That’s why I introduced the FLAT Prices Act to lower prescription drug costs and cosponsored the Medicare Buy-In and Health Care Stabilization Act to allow Mainers over 50 to buy into Medicare. I’ve also cosponsored bills to allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices and give Mainers the ability to import safe prescription drugs from Canada.

I’m always looking for opportunities to hear from Mainers, and I’ll continue to meet folks out in their communities. Please feel free to come by one of our offices to meet me and my staff and let us know if there’s any way we can serve you. I appreciate you keeping us informed. You can find them here:
