Congressman Jared Golden: “Let’s Get to Work”

January 8, 2019

Golden sworn in as U.S. Congressman for Maine’s Second District

WASHINGTON -- Today, Congressman Jared Golden of Lewiston became U.S. Representative for the second district of Maine upon taking the oath of office as the 116th session of Congress gets underway.

"I am honored to work for the people of Maine in Congress," said Congressman Golden. "I've always worked to put people first, whether it's in the Marines or in the State House. I'll do the same in Congress, working to find common ground and get results for our state. The people of Maine know what works for them, so it's my job to listen and get the job done. Let's get to work."

Congressman Golden grew up in Leeds, a small rural town in Maine's 2nd Congressional District. After the September 11 attacks, Golden enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served four years in the military as an infantryman, deploying to Afghanistan in 2004, and Iraq in 2005-2006. When Golden returned from service, he used the benefits he'd earned in the military to attend Lewiston's Bates College. While in school, he returned to Afghanistan as a volunteer school teacher. In 2011, Golden began serving as a staff member on the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee for Senator Susan Collins.

In 2014, Golden was first elected to represent Lewiston in the Maine House of Representatives. He has passed legislation to help homeless veterans get back on their feet, fought for union workers rights and access to workers compensation benefits, and advocated for passenger rail services in Maine to help grow and strengthen local economies. In the Maine State Legislature, Golden was chosen by his peers to serve as the Democratic Assistant Majority Leader in 2016. He currently lives in Lewiston with his wife Isobel.

Golden's Lewiston and Caribou offices are currently open and ready to begin helping constituents. The Lewiston office is located at 179 Lisbon Street and the Caribou office is located at 7 Hatch Drive, Suite 230. A district office in Bangor will open in the coming weeks.

Golden will welcome Mainers for an open house in his DC office at 1223 Longworth House Office Building today from 3-5 pm ET. If you're a member of the press interested in attending, please contact Nick Zeller at nick.zeller@mail.house.gov.
