Golden announces $12 million for CD2 airport infrastructure
Majority of grants funded through Bipartisan Infrastructure Law championed by Golden
WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) today announced that $12 million in federal aviation grants have been awarded to airports across Maine’s Second District over the past month.
Most of the grants were funded through the Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program and Airport Terminals Program (ATP), authorized under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that Golden championed through passage in 2021.
Golden was a strong advocate for the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which has directed billions of dollars to invest in Maine’s roads, bridges, broadband, airports, and much more while creating jobs that build a better Maine.
“In Maine’s most rural communities, air travel helps connect people, goods, emergency services, and more,” Golden said. “Once again, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is ensuring that federal resources are being invested right here at home.”
The remaining funds were distributed through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) through the normal annual appropriations process. All three grant programs support the necessary infrastructure to keep airports up to date and meet the needs of the regions they serve, from constructing new terminals to rehabilitating taxiways.
AIG and ATP grants funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law:
- $6,500,000 to Presque Isle International Airport to construct a larger, safer, ADA-compliant and more energy efficient terminal;
- $1,124,800 to Eastport Municipal Airport to construct a new terminal to replace the one removed in 2018;
- $481,117 to Presque Isle International Airport to design and build a new 15,000 square-yard terminal apron to accommodate increased use of larger, scheduled service passenger aircraft;
- $336,000 to Machias Valley Airport to construct 130 feet of a new taxilane.
- $225,000 to Augusta State Airport to rehabilitate a runway and taxiways;
- $220,000 to Greenville Municipal Airport to replace an existing airport rotating beacon;
- $180,000 to Newton Field Airport to reseal 7,500 feet of runway pavement;
- $130,530 to Presque Isle International Airport to update pavement management plans; and
- $100,000 to Bethel Regional Airport to construct a new 500 foot taxilane.
AIP Grants funded through the normal appropriations process:
- $811,000 to Oxford County Regional Airport to reconstruct 25,333 square yards of pavement for the terminal apron;
- $583,000 to the State of Maine to update a state airport system pavement management plan for eligible nonprimary airports;
- $433,000 to Caribou Municipal Airport to reconstruct 5,000 square yards of pavement for the terminal apron pavement;
- $302,000 to Bethel Regional Airport to bring runways up to standards and reconstruct perimeter fencing;
- $266,000 to Northern Aroostook Regional Airport to build a new 250-foot taxilane to provide airfield access to a hangar development area, bringing the airport up to conformity with current standards;
- $214,000 to Greenville Municipal Airport for new taxiways;
- $212,000 to Presque Isle International Airport to rehabilitate taxiways, extending their use;
- $173,000 to Augusta State Airport to reconstruct 24,000 square yards of the apron pavement; and
- $85,000 to Lincoln Regional Airport to acquire land adjacent to airport property to use for future Airport Improvement Program development.
Cumulatively, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has invested tens of millions into airport improvements in the Second District since 2022. Full descriptions of the latest round of awards can be found on the FAA’s AIP, AIG and ATP webpages.
