Golden Announces Federal Funding for Five Maine Border Stations through Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

February 25, 2022

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) announced today that five land ports of entry in Maine's Second District have received significant funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The legislation will invest more than $150 million through the General Services Administration (GSA) for construction and modernization for land ports of entry in Coburn Gore, Calais-Ferry Point, Fort Fairfield, Limestone, and Houlton.

"Many Mainers in the Second District rely on a safe and secure port of entry to do business and stay in touch with family across the Canadian border," said Congressman Jared Golden (D-ME). "Not only will this investment from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law help enhance security and safety on our northern border and fight drug trafficking, it will also support jobs and provide a boost to local economies in rural Maine."

The Maine land ports are among 26 major construction and modernization projects at land ports of entry that will be funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The average land port of entry is nearly 40 years old and long overdue for upgrades. Investment in port modernization will strengthen supply chains, improve operational capabilities and facility infrastructure, spur economic growth, and bolster the country's security.

Many of these modernization projects will allow CBP to more effectively deploy the latest technology to identify high risk activity and shipments, combat drug trafficking, and increase operational security.
