Golden Announces Over 2 Million Dollars in Infrastructure Funding for Airports in Second District
WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (D-ME) today shared that the Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded over 2.6 million dollars in infrastructure funding for six airports in Maine’s Second District. The congressman helped pass the funding through the House earlier this year through the omnibus spending bill and it was signed into law in March.
“I’m happy to see Maine airports getting the funding they need to make safety upgrades and important improvements in infrastructure,” said Congressman Golden. “Crucially, these grants aren’t just going to larger airports like Bangor and Presque Isle, but also smaller municipal facilities serving very rural areas, like Princeton and Eastport. We need to see more investments like these in rural communities across our state.”
Among the airports receiving funding were:
- $136,375 for Eastport Municipal Airport for a runway vertical/visual guidance system;
- $298,000 for Presque Isle International Airport for runway repairs;
- $673,752 for Presque Isle International Airport for aircraft rescue and fire fighting safety equipment, the construction of a taxi lane, and the reconstruction of perimeter fencing;
- $300,000 for Bangor International Airport for runway rehabilitation;
- $650,000 for Hancock County/Bar Harbor Airport for improvements to drainage systems and erosion control; and
- $60,000 for Princeton Municipal Airport for paving.
