Golden Appointed to House Small Business Committee

January 24, 2019

More than 145,000 small businesses in Maine employ over 280,000 workers. Golden: “I pursued a seat on this committee to get things done for our state’s small businesses and ensure they have the tools to grow, look out for their workers, and provide more good jobs to people all over Maine.”

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) was named today to the House Small Business Committee for the 116th Congress. Golden plans to use his position on the committee to bring more small businesses to Maine's Second District and help the state's existing businesses grow, innovate, and hire Mainers.

"Our proud tradition of small, family-owned businesses is part of what makes us Mainers," said Congressman Golden. "Over half of all Maine people count on a local small business for their paycheck, and these businesses and their workers will play a crucial role in the resurgence of many of our towns and rural areas. I pursued a seat on this committee to get things done for our state's small businesses and ensure they have the tools to grow, look out for their workers, and provide more good jobs to people all over Maine."

For Golden, small business is in his blood. He grew up helping his family operate a small golf course in Leeds, Maine. The Small Business Committee will give Golden the opportunity to improve entrepreneurship opportunities for his fellow Maine veterans.

"Congressman Golden's appointment to the Committee on Small Business is an important acknowledgement of his capacity to guide growth for a significant portion of our economy. Maine is built on small businesses and Maine's Second District, including the congressman's home city of Lewiston, provides specific examples for him to draw on to see the positive impact of the Small Business Administration's programs. I expect that Congressman Golden will bring depth to the work of the Small Business Committee to strengthen our economy and encourage programs that allow for entrepreneurial development and small enterprise reinvestment in local economies nationwide." - Rebecca Swanson Conrad, President & CEO, Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce

Maine small businesses employ over 284,000 workers in Maine and account for 99.3% of all businesses in the state. In 2018, small businesses created 4,300 new jobs in the state.

The House Committee on Small Business has jurisdiction over regulations, grants, and federal contracting for small businesses across the country.
