Golden delivers $7 million for wastewater treatment in Livermore Falls and Jay

March 13, 2024

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) announced today that he has secured $7 million in funding to support critical improvements for the Livermore Falls Wastewater Treatment Facility.

The funding is part of the partial 2024 government funding package signed into law Saturday and will be used to cover a portion of the overall cost of the project.

“Over 7,000 people live in the communities of Jay and Livermore Falls,” Golden said. “Safe wastewater systems are critical for not only their health, but for the protection of the surrounding ecosystems that make Western Maine such a special place. I’m glad the facility in Livermore Falls is on track for these necessary modernizations.”

“As we continue to move forward with the construction phases of the $17 million upgrade of the Wastewater Treatment Facility that serves the Towns of Livermore Falls and Jay, the $7 million grant will be a great asset to help reduce the financial burden our ratepayers and citizens will be facing in the wake of our communities mill closure and natural disasters,” said Jay Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere, Livermore Falls Town Manager Carrie Castonguay and Sewer Superintendent Mark Holt in a joint statement. “We are very appreciative of the work that Senator Collins, Senator King, and Congressman Golden have put forth to secure this CDS Grant funding for our communities. It's good to know they are in Washington looking out for the interests and needs of Maine's citizens.

The Livermore Falls Wastewater Treatment Facility serves Jay and Livermore Falls. The funding is imperative to prevent system failures in the facility that could spike costs for residents and damage important ecosystems. Improvements at the facility will address structural deficiencies and fund several new systems as well as technical upgrades needed for wastewater treatment, filtration and odor control.

The request on behalf of the Town of Livermore Falls was one of 15 awards from Golden’s Community Project Funding (CPF) requests approved as part of the appropriations package. His $26 million in successful CPF requests was the most of any Democrat in Congress.
