FARMINGTON — Mainers packed the Bass Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital for a town hall with Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) on Tuesday night. At the town hall, Golden laid out his health care priorities and took questions from the audience on a range of topics. Since taking office in January, Congressman Golden has travelled throughout his district to hear directly from Mainers about the issues that matter to them.
Golden's town hall was free, open to the public, and gave participants the opportunity to ask questions. Former Republican State Senator Tom Saviello served as the event moderator. The audience also heard from Dawn Caron, a Registered Nurse and representative of the Maine State Nurses Association, who used her first-hand experience to explain how the current health care system does not work for Maine people.
Congressman Golden and the audience discussed many of the policies included in his health care roadmap, a package of short-, medium-, and long-term proposalsto make healthcare more affordable and expand access to care. Golden devoted much of his time to discussing the Medicare Buy-In and Health Care Stabilization Act — legislation he cosponsored to allow Mainers over 50 to buy into Medicare — and his proposals to lower prices on prescription drugs.
