Golden Joins Small Business Owners for Roundtable in Norway

January 20, 2023

OXFORD HILLS — Ahead of the first meeting of the House Small Business Committee for the 118th Congress, Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) joined small business owners and members of the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce in Norway this week for a roundtable discussion. The group met at 290 Maine St. Pub in downtown Norway and discussion focused on challenges facing small businesses in the region and opportunities for growth.

“It was great to sit down with small business owners in Norway who are doing their part to grow our economy and make Oxford Hills an even better place to live and work,” said Golden. “I was grateful for the opportunity to hear from these community leaders about the obstacles they are facing as they make investments in this community and identify ways our office can be supportive. Thank you to the Maine State Chamber and the Oxford Hills Chamber for having me and to all the local business owners who took the time to share their experiences with me.”

Golden was hosted by Dana Connors, the President of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, and John Williams, the Chief Executive Officer of the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce and owner of Williams Broadcasting Inc. Among those who participated in the roundtable with Golden were representatives of local banking and lending institutions, hospitality industry members, and radio broadcasters.

Following the roundtable, Golden joined Connors for an episode of the Maine Chamber’s podcast, The Maine Take.

As a member of the House Small Business Committee Golden has been a champion of small business owners and entrepreneurs. Last fall, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce awarded Golden the Advocate for American Business award for his bipartisan work on behalf of Maine small businesses. During the 117th Congress, Golden chaired the Underserved, Agricultural, and Rural Business Development Subcommittee, and he used that role to consistently advocate for resources and support for small businesses. In April 2022, the House of Representatives passed Golden’s bipartisan legislation to help more small businesses across the country launch, grow, and retain workers through the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) program
