Golden Recognized by Committee for a Responsible Budget as 2022 ‘Fiscal Hero’
WASHINGTON —The Campaign to Fix the Debt, a nonpartisan group affiliated with the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, has announced that Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) has been named a 2022 Fiscal Hero. The Fiscal Heroes Award is awarded to the Members of Congress who set themselves apart by working on a bipartisan basis to introduce and advocate for financially responsible legislation.
“In Congress, we have to work together to ensure that we are using taxpayer dollars carefully and responsibly,” said Golden. “I have a responsibility to my constituents to work with whoever I can to pass fiscally responsible legislation and to keep the Mainers in my district informed about the impact our nation’s finances have on their lives and their futures. I am proud to have been named a 2022 Fiscal Hero, and I’ll continue to push for fiscal responsibility with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle.”
“With inflation at a 40-year high, the national debt reaching near-record levels, and our major trust funds facing looming insolvency over the next decade, our country faces daunting fiscal challenges,” said Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. “Addressing our fiscal challenges requires policymakers in Washington who distinguish themselves by their leadership and political courage, and Congressman Golden doing just that. We applaud Mr. Golden and the other Fiscal Heroes in Congress for their commitment to getting our nation on a more sustainable fiscal path.”
The Campaign to Fix the Debt defines a Fiscal Hero as a Member of Congress who has consistently worked with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to introduce and vote for responsible legislation that improves the nation’s finances and brings down the national debt.
Since being elected to Congress, Golden has prioritized common-sense solutions that seek to use taxpayer money effectively and efficiently in part to avoid adding to our national debt. Last year, Golden pushed House leadership to oppose efforts to add a State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction that would overwhelmingly benefit wealthy Americans to reconciliation legislation. Golden also pushed leadership to address the half-measures and budget gimmicks in the Build Back Better Act. Between his votes on the American Rescue Plan and the Build Back Better Act, Golden has voted against adding a combined $2.1 trillion dollars to the deficit.
