LEWISTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) had a busy start to the August district work period, meeting with Mainers throughout the Second District. Since taking office in January, the congressman has visited more than 68 towns and cities in the Second District.

Over the weekend, the congressman wrote an op-ed that was published in the Lewiston Sun Journal. In the op-ed, Golden laid out his reasoning for not supporting impeachment and made the case that Congress would better serve Americans by focusing on getting things done on issues like prescription drugs and infrastructure.

Congressman Golden started off the district work period at a coffee hour with constituents in Dixfield. At Ellis Variety, Golden discussed everything from breaking through the dysfunction and party politics in Washington to lowering healthcare costs.

Afterwards, the congressman toured the Nine Dragons (ND) Paper Mill in Rumford. At the mill, Golden met both management and workers at the mill. He heard about the long-term investment ND is making into the Rumford facility, as well as their work to create safer environments for their workers.

Later that day, Congressman Golden joined the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce for a small business roundtable. The congressman has placed a priority on convening local small businesses to hear how he can help connect them with resources and use his position on the House Small Business Committee to help them succeed. Participants at the Bethel roundtable discussed several issues, including improving rural infrastructure and increasing access to broadband. As Congress convenes in September, Golden will be looking to introduce new legislation designed to help small businesses connect to local broadband infrastructure.

The next day, Golden stopped by Hidden Valley Camp in Freedom, where he had the opportunity to talk with the campers and apprentices about the important role artists play in Maine.

Following the camp tour, Golden joined park rangers, state legislators, and advocates at Acadia National Park to get a first-hand look at the park's deteriorating infrastructure. Many of Acadia's buildings, roads, and bridges have not been updated in decades and are now falling into disrepair. At the event, the congressman urged passage of the bipartisan Restore Our Parks and Public Lands Act, which he has cosponsored.
