Golden Statement on Agreement to End Government Shutdown

January 28, 2019

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) released a statement following the announcement that an agreement had been reached to end the government shutdown.

"Today, the president finally accepted a bipartisan proposal to end the shutdown. This isn't about one side winning and one side losing. It's about getting our federal employees paid and back to work, stopping families' suffering from a preventable catastrophe, and putting politics aside to get things done for Maine and for our country.

"This deal lasts for three weeks. Now it's time for Congress to do its job and get to work. Both parties agree we need an open, functioning government. Both parties agree we need stronger borders. I've said from the beginning of this shutdown crisis that the way forward is for both parties to come to the table and work together. Congress needs to put actions behind its words." - Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02)
