Golden Statement on Developments in Ukraine, American Response

WASHINGTON — Following continued Russian advances into Ukrainian territory and mounting civilian casualties, Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) released the following statement on his focus for the American response.

"I continue to believe the Biden Administration should move to tighten sanctions on Russia — to include a ban on imports from Russia — in order to cut off the oil and gas revenue that it depends on to fund its military operations. This should include stronger sanctions against all Russian banks and those who do business with them. In addition, I am once again calling on President Biden to work with American energy producers to ramp up domestic production to protect the American people from rising gas and oil prices resulting from the conflict in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.

"I look forward to supporting additional resources for Ukraine in the days ahead once we have an agreement on an assistance package with the Senate. As part of this aid package, Congress should also consider providing resources to protect civilian lives in Ukraine, such as the Iron Dome system." - Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02)
