Golden Statement on District Court Decision Against Lobstermen’s Lawsuit to Block New Regulations
WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) released a statement following U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg’s decision to reject a lawsuit from lobstermen’s groups that sought to block new federal regulations on Maine’s lobster fishery.
“This ruling by Judge Boasberg is the latest in a long line of decisions made without a common sense evaluation of the evidence or a regard for the damage done to the lobster industry and lobstering communities from these regulations. Not only does Judge Boasberg ignore the most important data point — that Maine lobster gear has not been definitively linked to a single right whale fatality — he sets a dangerous precedent that could further open the floodgates for environmental groups seeking to continue to abuse the court system to put fishermen out of business. This ruling is wrong on principle and wrong on the merits.” - Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02)
