Golden statement on second Dobbs anniversary

June 24, 2024

‘The harm caused by Dobbs is clear and continuing,’ Golden says

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) released the following statement today marking the second anniversary of the  Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which stripped women of the constitutional right to abortion care.

“The court’s Dobbs decision was an attack on Americans’ constitutional rights that put the government between women and their doctors,” Golden said. “It undermined the right for women and families to decide how and when to have children and opened the door to further threats to women’s rights, freedom and health care.”

“The harm caused by Dobbs is clear and continuing: More than one in three women in the United States now live in states that have banned abortion while extremists in Congress and the states are working to build on Dobbs with further restrictions on women’s health care, even during a miscarriage, and national bans on both abortion and IVF. Congress must act to restore to all women the rights the Court took away two years ago,” Golden said.

Golden has been a strong advocate for women's reproductive health care throughout his time in public office. He has repeatedly voted for the Women's Health Protection Act, which would enshrine abortion rights for patients and providers and create federal protection against medically unnecessary restrictions on abortion. He also supported the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act in 2022, which would prohibit restrictions on traveling out-of-state to receive an abortion or ordering drugs approved for terminating a pregnancy through the mail.
