Golden Statement on Vote to Lift Debt Ceiling, Prevent Default

December 15, 2021

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) issued the following statement after his vote for legislation to lift the debt ceiling and prevent default by the federal government:

"Just as members of Congress have done nearly 100 times since World War II, under presidents of both parties, I voted yesterday to protect the full faith and credit of the United States,"said Golden. "Let's be clear: a default on our country's debt would be catastrophic for our economy. I'm glad that leaders from both parties stepped back from the brinkmanship and hostage-taking and allowed this measure to move forward with majority votes in both the House and Senate for the good of the country. As I have done consistently throughout this year, I will continue to push for fiscal responsibility as Congress considers the actual legislation that governs spending and revenue."
