Golden votes ‘No’ on Mayorkas impeachment
Impeachment ‘won’t stop a single illegal crossing or prevent cartels from smuggling one gram of fentanyl over the border’
WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) voted today to oppose the House GOP’s impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The Congressman released the following statement:
“I have seen no evidence that Secretary Mayorkas has committed any crimes. All I have seen is House Republicans saying they don’t like how he’s done his job. I have also disagreed with some aspects of the administration’s approach to the border crisis. But those disagreements are not grounds for impeachment,” Golden said. “Impeachment is wrong on the merits, and it won’t stop a single illegal crossing or prevent cartels from smuggling one gram of fentanyl into our country. Luckily, our Constitution gives Congress a way to address the border crisis: passing laws. That’s where serious members of Congress are focusing our energies. The Speaker and the House GOP should join us.”
