In Oxford County, Golden Meets with Local Leaders on Rural Healthcare, Workforce Training

August 9, 2022

NORWAY— Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) was in Oxford County today to hear from local health care and education leaders and discuss the impact of $1.6 million in federal funds he is working to secure for emergency services in the region.

The congressman joined a roundtable with doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals at Stephens Memorial Hospital to discuss challenges facing the hospital and about the Community Project Funding (CPF) the congressman is working to bring to the hospital’s paramedic station. The funds would be used to renovate the existing station, which is showing its age and becoming unsafe. The station serves 9 towns around Norway and responded to over 4,300 calls last year alone. Golden met with paramedics and was given a tour of the station.

Following his time in Norway, the congressman made his way to South Paris, where he took part in a tour of the Oxford County Technical School (OCTS) and in a discussion with administrators at the school. The conversation focused on ways to bolster and improve the workforce training programs offered at the school, in particular the forestry and electrical programs, and continued the congressman’s work with Maine’s adult education system to help create pathways to good, stable jobs in rural communities across the state.
