On Blue Hill Peninsula, Golden Working to Secure Funds to Upgrade Wastewater Treatment Facility
BLUE HILL— Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) headed to the Blue Hill Peninsula yesterday as part of his work to bring in federal funding to upgrade the town of Blue Hill’s aging wastewater facility. Golden passed $1 million in Community Project Funding (CPF) through the House to make much-needed repairs to the 47-year-old facility and is working to get the request signed into law.
“After nearly a half century of wear-and-tear from the waters of the Blue Hill Harbor, Blue Hill’s wastewater treatment facility is in need of upgrades and repairs to improve reliability for families and businesses in the area,” said Golden. “I joined local officials at the plant yesterday to see firsthand. I’m grateful to the community leaders on the Peninsula for their partnership in submitting this request and I’m working to secure the funding needed to help ensure that the communities on the Peninsula have consistent clean water and strong local infrastructure.”
Open since 1975, Blue Hill’s Wastewater Treatment Facility is showing its age and has been impacted by rising tide levels from the surrounding waters. The $1,000,000 in funding requested by the congressman for the facility will be used to make repairs to the plant and upgrades that prevent further degradation from the rising water levels.
During his visit to Blue Hill, Golden also met with representatives from Peninsula Tomorrow, a newly re-formed group to coordinate among the towns on the Blue Hill Peninsula to address coastal resilience and help the region plan for climate change and the future.
