Washington, D.C. — Following unanimous passage by the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, the State Veterans Homes Domiciliary Care Flexibility Act will be sent to the President to be signed into law. The legislation was ultimately passed as part of a broad veteran benefits improvements package, the Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020.

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02), Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Angus King (I-ME), and Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (ME-01) today urged the U.S. Department of Commerce to reject a petition for emergency interim fishery regulations regarding the North Atlantic right whale. The petition, submitted by a number of out-of-state interest groups, would bypass the established regulatory process and could set a dangerous precedent that could needlessly close lobster fisheries throughout New England.

WASHINGTON — Legislation introduced by Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) to bolster safety training programs for fishermen is on its way to the president's desk to be signed into law. Golden's Funding Introduction for Safety, Health, and Security Avoids Fishing Emergencies Act (FISH SAFE) passed the House and Senate this week and would restore important federal funding that supports the work of local organizations to offer safety training to fishermen and research safety practices.

LEWISTON — Today, Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) announced his office's nominees to the United States Service Academies—the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, U.S. Military Academy at West Point and U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs. To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by an authorized nominating source, which includes Members of Congress.

WASHINGTON — The conference report of the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) — the final version of the legislation — passed the House last night. The legislation contained a number of Congressman Jared Golden's (ME-02) priorities for American national security, Maine shipbuilders, and servicemembers and their families. Golden was a member of the conference committee that produced the report and secured the important provisions over nearly a year of work on the House Armed Services Committee.

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) led a bipartisan group of members of Congress today to press the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee to extend the Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC) for five years. Dozens of retirees from the Twin Rivers Paper Company in Madawaska have used the tax credit to access affordable health care, and over 200 current workers at Twin Rivers could become eligible when they retire.
