WASHINGTON — With Maine's over-65 population expected to exceed its under-19 population next year, Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) introduced new legislation, the Multigenerational Engagement Act, this week that would expand opportunities for seniors to connect with young people. The bipartisan bill, which Golden introduced with Republican Congressman Ron Wright (TX-06), makes federal resources available to states, Area Agencies on Aging, and community organizations such as YMCAs to provide programs that facilitate engagement across generations.

WASHINGTON — Continuing his work to create and protect jobs in Maine by helping small businesses grow, Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) successfully passed his bipartisan bill to reauthorize and expand the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) program through the House of Representatives today. Golden's legislation supports the work of the 11 SBDC outreach locations in Maine's Second District to provide low- or no-cost business training and advising in areas like business plan development, marketing and sales, e-commerce, and small business strategic planning.

WASHINGTON — Recognizing that fishing industry jobs are some of the most dangerous in the country, Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) and Congressman Don Young (AK-At-Large) introduced the Funding Instruction for Safety Health, and Security Avoids Fishing Emergencies (FISH SAFE) Act today. The FISH SAFE Act is bipartisan, bicameral legislation that would increase the federal funding available for grants to support fishing safety training and research programs.

PORTLAND, MAINE—U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Angus King (I-Maine) and Representatives Chellie Pingree (ME-01) and Jared Golden (ME-02) today announced the award of $1.6 million from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Sea Grant program to the University of Maine. The grant will fund a research project on Highly Migratory Species in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico, which will help to collect data on age, growth, and migratory behavior of tuna and shark species.

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) passed a bill to help launch and expand Maine small businesses through the House Small Business Committee today. Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) help Maine small businesses get off the ground and expand their capacity through low- or no-cost business training and advising in areas like business plan development, marketing and sales, e-commerce, and small business strategic planning. Maine has a lead SBDC located at the University of Southern Maine, which operates eleven outreach locations in Maine's Second District.
