WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) and three bipartisan colleagues — Congressman Mike Gallagher (WI-08), Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), and Congressman Peter Meijer (MI-03) — introduced a new bill this month to help Congress reclaim its constitutional war powers by repealing outdated Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMFs). The bill would end the 1957, 1991, and 2002 AUMFs, formally ending the Congressional authorization for the Gulf and Iraq wars, as well as an open-ended Cold War-era authorization of force in the Middle East.

WASHINGTON — After complaints from Maine veterans of significantly extended wait times for travel reimbursement, Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) led a letter to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Denis McDonough, joined by Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Angus King (I-ME), and Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (ME-01), about the reported holdups.

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) voted to pass the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021 (the Dream Act) today. The bill would provide undocumented immigrants who arrived in the U.S. as children an opportunity to become permanent residents and citizens of the United States.

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) and Maine Senate President Troy Jackson (D-Allagash) released a joint statement today in response to Congress yet again taking action to reform the H-2A visa program without addressing loopholes that have enabled Canadian truckers to unfairly exploit and take American jobs.

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) voted today for the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2021. The legislation reauthorizes and expands the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), landmark legislation to address domestic violence, sexual assault, and related issues. He previously supported the bill when it passed the House in 2019.

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) voted for a H.J.Res.17 today, legislation that would remove the deadline for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). If ratified, the ERA would provide Constitutional protection against discrimination on the basis of sex.

Congressmen Jared Golden (ME-02) and Mike Bost (IL-12) today introduced the Rural Education Investment Act in the House of Representatives. The bipartisan legislation helps address teacher shortages in rural schools by requiring the U.S. Department of Education to increase the share of Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) grant funding for rural areas so that it is equal to the percentage of K-12 students living in a rural area.
