WASHINGTON, D.C. (WABI) - Congressman Jared Golden is introducing a bill designed to stop drug companies that try to unfairly raise drug prices.

The bill would punish pharmaceutical companies that raise the price on a drug more than 10 percent within one year.

"It would then go on into the second year and say if they go up with their prices by more than 18 percent and so on into the third to prevent them from increasing prices unfairly on consumers."

WASHINGTON D.C. — As public frustration with rising prescription drug prices rises, Maine's four-member congressional delegation is rallying behind efforts to lower the cost.

"Skyrocketing drug prices are making it more and more difficult for Americans to access the treatments they require," U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, a Maine Republican, said recently.

"Year after year, Mainers get soaked by high drug prices. It's past time our country addressed this issue," said U.S. Rep. Jared Golden, a 2nd District Democrat.

2nd District U.S. Rep. Jared Golden is urging his colleagues on the House Small Business Committee to develop an infrastructure package that focuses on small businesses and rural states.

He pressed U.S. Chamber of Commerce Vice President Thomas Sullivan to lay out the priorities of Chamber members.

"Would they would put the priority on something like broadband, would they put it on something like rail development, would they put it in straight roads and bridges?" asked Golden.

Sullivan responded, "all of the above."

WASHINGTON, D.C., USA — Rep. Jared Golden is spearheading a bill he says will stop drug companies from unfairly hiking prices.

The freshman Democrat introduced the FLAT Prices plan Wednesday, Feb. 13. which would penalize pharmaceutical companies that "harm consumers with sudden, exorbitant price increases."

The bill considers a price increase of more than 10 percent within one year,18 percent within two, or 25 within three years as unfair.

Drug companies would also be required to report price spikes to the Department of Health and Human Services.

Washington, D.C. - As the United States and China conduct trade negotiations, U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Angus King (I-ME) and Representatives Chellie Pingree (D-ME) and Jared Golden (D-ME) joined a bipartisan group in sending a letter to the Trump Administration asking that the U.S. potato industry be a priority in the ongoing talks. In the bipartisan, bicameral letter signed by 39 members, they noted that the inclusion of potatoes in any U.S.-China trade deal would create significant economic growth and result in new jobs.

Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King and Reps. Chellie Pingree and Jared Golden signed a letter to the Trump administration, asking that the U.S. potato industry be a priority in discussions about the U.S.-China trade deal.

AUBURN — The inaugural Vets in the Valley event at Lost Valley attracted dozens of veterans and active-duty service people and their families who were offered free lift tickets and ski rentals.

They also were given a chance to connect with an array of resources including employment opportunities and mental health supports.

"We got people outside, and that's what it's all about," said John Herrick, general manager of Lost Valley, who planned the event and is himself a veteran of 29 years in the U.S. Air Force.
